Atanas Raykov is an ardent believer in the immense power of the technology to positively change the lives of individuals and societies. Atanas worked for 10 year for the biggest telecom in Bulgaria VIVACOM. He started as the youngest member of its launch team and later became the person, responsible for the commercial strategy of its mobile and VAS business. Together with the amazing multinational team in the company he has managed to make VIVACOM number one mobile data provider, leading innovator and key player in shaping the mobile apps eco-systems in Bulgaria. Atanas stands out with his innovations that transformed several aspects of the mobile market, his ability to forge long-lasting partnerships with both local and global partners and his relentless strive for over-achievement. In his last position he oversaw the increase of the market share of the company from 12 to 26% in just 4 years, combined with an increase in the ARPU and more than doubling of the customer base in a very challenging competitive environment and amid an economic crisis in the country. As a testimony for his outstanding work Atanas, was one of the selected members of VIVACOM’s Key People talent management program between 2012 and 2015 and in 2013 his fellow colleagues chose him for the most innovative employee of the year award.
Atanas has a BA degree from Sofia University and a Masters in ICT Management from New Bulgarian University. He has keen interest in the political and economic sciences as well and has participated in Fulbright International Summer Institute and Georgetown University International Institute for Economic and Political Studies in 2010. He is an experienced public speaker, member of the Toastmasters International and a speaker at more than 20 technology events including Mobile2Days, StartUp Next and WebIT 2013. Atanas has attended numerous certification courses in the field of time-management, negotiations, NLP, public speaking and situational leadership organized by distinguished institutions such as Blanchard International and Dale Carnegie.
In line with the overall shift of power from traditional telco players to the OTT businesses, Atanas has been devoting a lot of time and resources in the last couple of years to help build and strengthen the local startup eco-system in Bulgaria by being a mentor for the portfolio companies of the two major local accelerators – Launchub and Eleven – and also by helping the local team of the StartUp foundation. He is also advising several emerging startups from the CEE region with strong focus on mobile – Flyver (Android SDK for UAVs), pCloud (next-generation cloud service) and TaxiStars (revolutionizing the taxi ordering business in the region). The collaboration with the incredibly smart and inspiring individuals (and teams) in the start-up community has been the most energizing and rewarding way of spending his spare time, that Atanas can imagine, and he feels very fortunate to be doing it.
In his new role as General Manager of Viber for CEE Atanas takes over the exciting task of building on the already huge popularity of Viber in the Central and Eastern Europe and offering quality local content and services to the millions of users across the region. Viber’s goal will be to help each and every user to express their emotions and share all the good vibes in their lives with all the people that are important to them in a vivid, fast and easy way.
